It is with great regret that NWK learned of an incident during which a vehicle was stolen at the car wash at Total Lichtenburg. The incident occurred on Monday, 31 October 2022 at around 10:00.
Management became aware of the incident when the owner of the vehicle arrived to fetch it at about 12:00. By then the vehicle’s key had already been handed to someone else, who posed as the owner of the vehicle.
Video footage of security cameras was checked and a man, who also ate and drank at the restaurant on the premises and left without having paid his bill, was identified as the suspect to whom the key was handed.
The police and Community Policing Forum were immediately notified and the suspect was arrested later that afternoon in Burgersdorp. The vehicle was found deserted in the same area. The suspect was arrested and charges of theft were laid.
“We are busy with an internal investigation that has already indicated that existing procedures with regards to the taking in and handing over of keys to the rightful owner, were not being followed.
“Current procedures have already been reviewed and intensified,” Pieter Coetzer, senior manager of trade at NWK, said.
“It is an isolated incident and we would like to reassure our clients that we are taking all necessary steps to ensure that their vehicles are safe on our premises,” Pieter concluded.
