A whole new world awaits the 15 NWK graduates who completed their learnerships in Business Administration and Generic Management respectively. They were honoured during a prestigious function at NWK’s training centre on 5 May.
The learners obtained NQF 4 qualifications that will improve their chances of being employed and furthering their careers. The learnerships stretched from 1 May 2022 to 30 April 2023.
- In Business Administration, learners were taught skills like communication, organisational development, organisational ethics, service provider management, personal effectiveness as well as administration.
- Generic Management elaborated on learnership skills, team building, problem-solving skills, human resources as well as disaster risk management.
At the function they received their certificates from Theo Rabe, group CEO of NWK.
Keep on learning
Benedict Modise, director of Economic Development at NWK, addressed the graduates and explained that the purpose of the learnerships that NWK offer, was to address unemployment. “It offers the unemployed opportunities to participate in the job market.”
He added that these learners represented the footprint of the province and that NWK saw it fit to promote these learnerships, not only as a part of compliance, but to plough back within our communities.
“Also, it ensures that NWK can choose from the cream of the crop to work for us.” Another benefit of the learnerships that Benedict highlighted, was that it enabled graduates to work more independently and be part of the broader NWK community without requiring more supervision. “The learnerships enhance their problem-solving skills greatly.”
In closing, Benedict urged them to never ‘graduate from learning’ and that they should make it their lifetime goal to expand their knowledge.
“Also, avoid entitlement. You have to work your way up. Develop a healthy perspective of success and failure. The latter provides an opportunity to reflect and correct. Match your ‘book smart’ with ‘people smart’. You can have all the theoretical knowledge in the world, but your people skills need to be developed to match it.”
Simóne Ferreira, Talent Acquisition Specialist at NWK, gave the graduates tips to follow to utilise in the workplace. “Take initiative and be proactive. Employers love it when employees identify problems and come up with ways to solve them.”
